My Christmas!

The day of Christmas I was very happy because I was with my family. They gave me  many gifts.

They didn't only give things to me  they also gave a bicycle to my little brother. He amused with this.

 And other more gifts!

Hi! I’m Maria, and I'm going to explain what we do  in Spain for Christmas holidays.
Christmas is a religious date in Spain.
The 24th of December was Christmas Eve, this day came Father Christmas, and we had dinner with the family.
In Spain some typical food are nougats and wafers.
The 31st of December   at 12 o’clock we ate grapes, exactly 12 grapes one with each clock bell.
The 6th of January we celebrate the tree wise men's day. They came and gave presents to the children.

My Christmas

This Christmas, I have been in here, in Terrassa with my family.
For Christmas we decorate the Christmas tree, and we do the “pessebre” (nativity scene), that represents the birth of Jesus.

On the 25th of December we celebrate Christmas, so I went to my grandfather's house with my family to open the presents, and later, to have dinner.
The 31st of December night I went to my uncle's house with my cousins and some friends. There, we ate the 12 grapes. The 12 grapes consists in eating a grape for each bell strike  at midnight of 31st of December.
Then, the 5th of January night, I went to see the kings parade. These kings come from Eastern countries to bring us presents. And on the kings parade, the kings throw sweets.
The 6th of January, when I got up I saw presents under the Christmas tree.(like on Christmas day)
Then I went to my grandmother's house with all my family, and there, there were more presents.

Last Christmas

Last Christmas I went to my uncle's house to have lunch. We ate ''Galets soup'', it's a typical Christmas meal here. I didn't get a lot of presents, but I like what I got.
The ''Polvorones'' and ''Mantecados''  are a type of heavy, soft and very crumbly Spanish shortbread made of floursugarmilk, and nuts. Here there's a photo:
Here, in the New year's eve, we eat twelve greapes in the twelve last seconds of the year to commemorate the New year. It's tradicional and it brings good luck.
We went to the Three Wise Men's ride, where they give a lot of sweets to us. Also, the children give a Christmas letter to the ''Patge Xiu Xiu'', where they write what they want to the Three Wise Men's day. In this day we eat the ''Roscón de Reyes'' with the family. It's a tradition: Inside of that there's a figure of one of the Wise Men, the person who has it in his ''Roscón's'' portion is going to have good luck, and the person who has the ''haba'' (a bean) in his ''Roscón's'' portion has to pay the ''Roscón''.

Christmas

In this Christmas I went to the house of my godparents, and I celebrated Christmas Eve and the New Year.
I played with her son  with the PS3.
I ate a special food from Romania, consisting of a kind of spring roll, only with ground beef and it is called "Sarma".
The  6th  of January, I celebrated the three wise men only with my family and I ate a home made "Tortell".
In my house, I made a Christmas tree and a Nativity scene.
This is the "Tortell", and behind it, was the Christmas tree.
And here, the "Sarma".

Last Christmas

I spent Christmas with my family some days  before
Santa Claus arrived, we go into the forest and search for a "tio",
which is a small trunk with  a face drawn on it and it wears a hat.
(Someone paints it before the children arrive).
In New Years Eve we had dinner at my grandmother's
house and at 12 o'clock  we watched the television and
see the clock in Madrid. With each bell stroke you had
to eat a grape.

My Christmas holidays
Christmas in Spain, Terrassa:
We usually decorate the house with the tree, Christmas cards, a nativity scene, candles, lights, caga Tió...
Caga tió is traditional in Catalonia, It's a trunk with a face. You feed it every day before Christmas and it gives small presents for children at Christmas eve. I usually gives food and sweets. We also have a calendar from 1st - 24th December. Inside the calender, you can find small gifts or candy every day.
We celebrate Christmas eve on 24th of December. I celebrated it  with my family. At 10 o'clock we had dinner. My family and I ate tomato food as a first course and the second course was baked pig.
My sister and I don't like pig because they hurt  the pig. The typical food is tortell de reis,  polvorons, galets soup, neules, turrons... My grand mum cooks traditional food and my sister helps in the kitchen.
When we ate, the children sang the song of Christmas. For example: Christmas tree, snowman...
And many things.
I love Christmas because there are many presents.

See you later... ;)

The celebrations started the 24th of December. We celebrated “La nit de Nadal”. We ate some typical food, and for dessert we ate something called “turrons and polvorons”. This night came Santa Claus, with a lot of presents for everyone. The presents are under the Christmas tree, and “Caga Tió*” The next day we celebrate Christmas day and we ate some typical food, too.
 "Caga  Tió"

The 31st of December. This day is called New Year’s Eve. This day we celebrated that started a new year, and we ate twelve grapes. The next day was New Year’s Day.
The twelve grapes
The last celebration was the Three Wise Men. The 5th of January at night we went to the Three Wise Men parade to see them. And the 6th of January we celebrated that everyone had a lot of presents in their house.

 The Three Wise Men

In Spain, for Christmas we decorated the houses, the shops, and the streets with a lot of things. For example we decorated with a Christmas tree, with “Caga Tió” and with a Nativity Scene.
*Caga Tió: Is a piece of wood the gives small presents to  the children.

The Native Scene
Last Christmas I had a great time with my cousins. I've spent most of the day with them and these have been some unforgettable days. We ate candies, chocolate, soup ... and my cousins all done by me with the help of our grandmother. We went to see a Nativity scene in Barcelona and it was very nice. On New Year's Eve I went to my uncles' house and when we had to eat the twelve grapes the  light went off. We were very scared. After half an hour the light went back  and we ate the grapes a bit  late. On the Kings Day we went to a restaurant to eat and the food was very good.

MY LAST CHRISTMAS

Last Christmas were very special for me, because was they were the first Christmas of my little cousin and I “cagar el tió” with him and we went to the Three Wise Men Parade, too. I love Christmas and I decorated all my house with typical things, for example I placed a nativity scene and a Christmas tree at home. All my family went to my grandparents’ house to celebrate the most important days here like Christmas, “San Esteban” (26th December), New Year…                                                                                                       "Children cagant el tió"

We sang carols and played  board games:  for   example “Quinto”, a  board game similar to the Bingo. We ate typical food from here for example soup of “galets” (soup with a kind of pasta), “turrons” something that is made of: chocolate, almonds , coconut, coffee,… there are sereveral different tastes...
"Quinto"
"Turrons"

At Christmas Eve Santa Claus came to our house and he gave some presents specially for the children.

The 30th of December I went to see “Els Pastorets” (a play about Christmas) with my best friend.  it’s typical in Catalonia but not in Spain.

I ate twelve grapes to start the New Year (31st of December at 12 o’clock, a typical tradition in Spain to do), after this we cheered with “cava”.

In the 5th of January I went to the Three Wise Men Parade something typical here and something that children like a lot because they can see the Three Wise Men and because they throw  sweets, too.

In the 6th of January we ate “Tortell de Reis”, a typical dessert  that has two presents: a bean (if you get it, you have to pay the “tortell”) and a little  figure of one of the Three Wise Men (if you get it, you have to put on a crown look like a king).
